there is indeed an adaptor, it should come with the gauge or be available in a fitting kit to suit the gauge. i fitted a TIM pressure gauge to my car and it came with all of the connections, even allowed me to keep the oil pressure warning light. the only thing i would recommend is fitting a braided line for the gauge, the solid copper ones break really easy. mine lasted about 2 months, but my engine rocks like you wouldnt believe!

Oil Pressure Warning Light
Keeps coming on when at a standstill after long (9ish miles) and even some short journeys, but water temp is fine (or guage is lying....) Blipping throttle turns light off as revs rise. Its a 1991 City 998cc completely standard, had regular oil changes but dont know whats in it at moment (recently purchased!), and the oil level is fine. Any ideas how to remedy this? Would an oil cooler help? Please help as it cant be doing it any good!

oil pressure
disconnect the wires from the pressure sender and see if the light still comes on, if it does then its a wiring fault (not very likely) Changing the oil presure switch would be a good idea (only cheap), sounds like it could be coming on at too lower pressure (or use an oil pressure tester to check the one you have if you can get your hands on one) If it still comes on then when was the last time the oil filter was changed? if you dont know then it will be worth changing it as theyre only cheap - it could be blocked. Oil could be wrong grade, but again i wouldnt have thought so. Failing that your looking at an oil pump really, try and listen to it with engine running, any grinding or rattleing noises might give you a clue. An oil cooler on a road engine would do more harm than good, the oil would run too cool, this doesnt sound like a temp issue. enjoy ian

Cool cheers. Looks like im in for a dirty weekend! Probably change oil & filter for peace of mind just so i know whats in there. Would it be worth using an oil flush to get the old stuff completely out (& any rubbish), or will that make it become sieve like?

Hi If you can, ask someone with a oil pressure gauge to check the oil pressure, after the oil/filter, change, Just to make sure the engine is receiving enough oil, it could destroy the engine in the long run if not taken care. Tito

Oil Pressure
I had the same problem with my 1293. Turned out to be a worn oil pump. Fitted a Turbo pump, and has run at about 50 PSI ever since (30 PSI after a good thrashing). I too had checked everything, changing pressure reilef valves, filters, oil, and ended up on the pump. Long winded, and really hacks you off, as you need to change the oil and filter yet again to do the pump! You can change an oil pump in three or four hours, if you have a good temperment, (little bit tight in the engine bay!). I managed to do it with the engine still in the car, although it was a squeeze. One other thought though. I HIGHLY recommend that you remove the pressure relief valve spring and cap and replace the cap with one of the ball bearings from a CV joint (fits perfect). This will prevent it from sticking period.

Oh joy, hope it isnt oil pump. Recently learnt that prev owner only ever used it for short (1-2 mile) journeys for about 5 years so with any luck its just spring/plunger parts are gunked up. Anyway, am in process of buying new bits inc spring & new switch - will get ball-bearing as suggested. Tried to have a quick look at it today but sods law dictates my socket set doesnt have socket big enough to take it out....doh.... fingers crossed................

Oil Pressure Problems
My 1310cc mini has been having some problems lately with the oil pressure - its gradually taken a nose-dive. Checked the oil pressure with another line and it definately says the same. Thing is, its still getting the oil up to the rockers. When it starts up the pressure is nice and high, get it driving and all is good to start with. Once the engine and oil get warm it just drops. Doesnt sound like the bearings have gone, and we dont think its the rings. Were thinking of having a bash at changing the oil pump but were wondering if anyone knows if you can change the oil pump on a 1300 A+ series engine without taking the engine out? Also, any other suggestions of what else we could try? Thanks!

NO OIL PRESSURE, ANY IDEAS KEITH CALVER ?
I HAVE A 1963 MINI FITTED WITH STANDARD MG METRO ENGINE , NEVER BEEN IN BITS. AFTER A 80MPH (4TH GEAR)RUN ON THE A27 IT DEVELOPED A RATTLE THAT SOUNDS LIKE ITS FROM THE CAMSHAFT AT THE No4 PISTON END OF THE BLOCK. THE OIL PRESSURES IS NOT READING ON THE GAUGE, WITH THE ADAPTOR IN THE BLOCK FOR THE OIL PRESSURE GAUGE PIPE REMOVED NO OIL COMES OUT WHEN THE ENGINE IS RUNNING. THE PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE IS OK ,NO OIL COMES OUT OF THERE EITHER. THERE IS NO RUMBLING FROM THE BOTTOM ENDS. EVEN WITH THE LACK OF OIL PRESSURE THE THING GOES LIKE A ROCKET. I AM NOT DRIVING IT NOW OBVIOUSLY. NO OIL IS GETTING TO THE ROCKER GEAR. IT IS FITTED WITH THE MINI OIL FILTER HOUSING NOT THE OIL COOLER MG METRO TYPE AND IT HAS THE CORRECT UNIPART OIL FILTER. THE OIL AND FILTER WERE CHANGED 300 MILES AGO. OBVIOUSLY THE RATTLE IS CAUSED BY OIL STARVASION BUT WHY.? SOMETHING FAILED WITH THE HIGHER RPM ? OIL PUMP?

No Oil Pressure
If you lost oil pressure at Motorway speed then the entire engine will need stripping as it will have severe wear to the rings and bearings due to lack of oil. If you tried to drive home slowly then this will be even worse. If you manage to sort this problem and the engine runs okay then it will most likely only last a short while. A strip down is what is needed here!

Oil Pressure Gauge Pipe
When i bought my oil pressure gauge i also bought the braided pipe C-AHT9 i noticed that when i got it and checked it the pipe was to big to fit to the attachment at the back of my gauge (tim gauge) and that there was no way of attaching it to my block, can anyone help me find the parts needed to fit this pipe?
Posted: May 30, 2005 08:46 PM
I got the copper one, but i got that one to make my engine look better and so that if my engine rocked too much the pipe would not break, i will be sending it back as i have looked at there catalogue and its a oil cooler pipe not a guage pipe as they say on the website.

Can anyone tell me how to fit a mechanical oil pressure gauge to a 1998 MPI 1275.There is already a oil temp gauge and i was led to believe you fixed an oil pressure gauge to another position on the block.

Oil Pressure Gauge
I have fitted an oil pressure gauge to my MPi. Get the necessary bits from MS. a tee piece, etc remove the oil pressure switch at the front of the engine. Fit the Tee piece to the block and refit the oil pressure switch and oil pressure line. It is not that difficult.

MPI oil pressure
Just fitted a smiths oil pressure gauge (mechanical) and concerned that the oil pressure at cold on fast idle is 80psi. when i rev it it goes abouve 100psi. is this correct?
Posted: Nov 24, 2005 05:46 PM
Yes mine did that but when hot it ran about 50 - 60 psi. But dont strain the gauge by reving the engine when cold and sending the neddle off the scale.

to make sure you have oil pressurre you need to remove the oil pressure plug out of the front of the engine and put some oil down the hole. then turn the engine over backwards to get it into the oil pump. once you ave done this turn the engine over until oil spews out of the hole then you know there is oil pressure and the pump is working correctly. make sure there is oil in the engine, it might be an idea to change the oil!
